City cyber cell officials on Tuesday arrested five accused who were involved in making duplicate RTO fine and e-challan receipts. The accused have been identified as Tahir Mirza, Ashraf Shaikh (resident of Kalupur), Anwar Shaikh, Ismail Chipa and Mohammad Hanif Shaikh.

According to cyber cell officials, on Monday, they got a tip-off from a source that there were agents standing outside Danilimda towing station who were issuing Regional Transport Office (RTO) and e-challan fine receipts to people. These receipts are originally issued by the RTO office and traffic police department. A team was sent to the spot and four people were arrested.

Usually when a vehicle is detained by cops, the owner of the vehicle has to go to the RTO to pay the fine, after which, the RTO issues a receipt to get their vehicle back.

Investigation revealed that the accused were making duplicate receipts and were taking money from people whose vehicles had been detained. It was also revealed that the accused were selling e-challan receipts, which are issued by traffic cops once an offender pays his pending fines.

During interrogation, the four accused revealed that they got the receipts from the main accused identified as Tahir Mirza, a resident of Juhapura. Acting on the information, a team raided Mirza's house, from where, he was arrested. While searching the house, officers recovered cash and mobile along with a printer, which Mirza had been using to print the receipts to give to the agents.

As per cyber branch officials, right now, only the five accused have been arrested, but they suspect there are more people involved in the racket and it could be revealed during the arrested accused's interrogation.

‘ACTED ON TIP-OFF’

Probe revealed that the accused were making duplicate receipts and were taking money from people whose vehicles had been detained.
