A day after Mihir Chaudary slit his former girlfriend Nidhi Panchal's throat on a busy road in Chandlodia, victim's father Prakash held police responsible for the incident. He alleged that despite submitting applications of harassment against Chaudary and how he posed a threat to his daughter, cops did not take action against him.

"On June 30 and July 7 we had given a written application to the Sola police station and Mahila Crime branch respectively regarding the threat calls made by Chaudhari and the harassment faced by Nidhi. They turned a blind eye. Had the cops taken action on time, this unfortunate incident could have been prevented," said Prakash.

As per his allegations, Nidhi was in XII standard when Chaudary kidnapped and kept her captive in his uncle's house in Ramol. "We somehow rescued her from his clutches but didn't lodge a complaint. Chaudary continued to harass Nidhi through messages and calls. He even threatened to hurt her if she didn't reconcile with him," said Prakash.

When DNA contacted ACP (A-Division) MA Patel he said, "One shouldn't put the blame on the police for everything; parents should also look after their children." Assuring justice, he added, "During the investigation, if we find negligence on our part, strict action will be taken against the guilty."

While investigation revealed that Nidhi and Chaudary were in a relationship and had run away from home four years ago. After they broke up, the accused started harassing her in hopes of reconciliation.

"Around four years ago, when they were in a relationship, they run away from home. However, they were caught and forcefully separated by her parents," said Patel.

"A few months ago, when the accused came to know that another boy has entered Nidhi's life, he started harassing her. On being rejected, he took the drastic step," added Patel.

On Wednesday evening, Chaudary approached Nidhi who was alone in her the house in hopes of reconciliation. On being rejected, he stabbed her. When realisation dawned upon him, a scared Chaudary tried to take her to hospital. Bystanders rushed at Chaudhry, apprehending something fishy. On being stopped, Chaudary slit her throat, after which he was thrashed by the public. While bystanders rushed Nidhi to Sola Hospital, Mihir was handed over to police.
