Unable to crack an 18-month-old murder case that took place within half kilometre radius of their office in Jamalpur, Ahmedabad Crime branch filed a closure report with the court eight days ago. One Mohammad Hanif Shaikh, aka Hanif Dadhi, was murdered around 11.30pm on September 17, 2016, near Shaad Bakery.

Sources said the agency sleuths failed to crack the despite getting several CCTV camera footage clues. After failing to collect the dots, the sleuths submitted a closure plea with a court eight days ago. Dadhi was close to a bakery with his friends when he was shot by two scooter-borne assailants on his chest. The bullets punctured his lungs and he died on September 18.

Gaikwad Haveli police started an investigation, and later handed over the case to Ahmedabad Crime branch on the order of the then Police Commissioner Shivanand Jha. CCTV camera footage of the incident was recovered by the crime branch and it was revealed that the bullets were 7.65mm. The number of the vehicle that was used in the murder was also recovered.

However, the Crime Branch officials failed to catch any of the accused. Nor were they able to find any lead into the case.

According to a source, more than 100 suspects were interrogated by the officers. However, nothing came out. The investigation even reached Mumbai, but everything failed.
