Learning from one’s own mistakes seems to be no longer the norm. Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), to ensure that its second edition of the National Book Fair in the city passes without hiccups, is sending a team of officials to the New Delhi World Book Fair (NDWBF), to be held on February 4, to study how the fair is managed.

After receiving kudos for the Sabarmati marathon and cyclothon, the civic body is all set to popularise yet another event - the National Book Fair - in a big way. The National Book Fair, Ahmedabad will be held from May1-7 at Sabarmati riverfront.

Sharing the plans, municipal commissioner Guruprasad Mohapatra said, “We will send a team of officials to study the Delhi book fair. It will study how the event is organised, what activities go on and how things can be improved at the city book fair.” The names of the officials will be decided soon. Plans are on to improve the physical appearance, signage and displays of the fair.
The National Book Trust (NBT) has also given suggestions on improving the appearance of the city’s fair which will be incorporated.

The team will also promote the city fair in Delhi. “We have booked one stall in the NDWBF where lot of prospective booksellers and publishers will be informed about the city’s fair,” added Mohapatra. The team will contact publishers and booksellers asking them to participate in the city’s book fair. The NDWBF is one of the largest book fairs of the country organised by NBT.
