Ahmedabad city sees over 730 cases of waterborne diseases in Feb

With the summer season sets in city, the case of waterborne cases are likely to rise as indicated in the heath bulletin issued by the health department of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).

On Monday, the health department has issued a press release of weekly health status of city, in which 734 cases has been recorded of waterborne diseases till February 24.

"Due to summer season, the waterborne cases are very much likely to appear more in number. People are advised to avoid outside food and beverages those are sold unpacked."

If people find or come across suspicious water then they should immediately contact civic body," said Dr Bhavin Solanki, in-charge medical officer of health, AMC.

Out of the total reported 734 waterborne cases, 408 cases of gastroenteritis, 166 cases of typhoid and 160 cases of typhoid have been reported.

To prevent waterborne diseases, health department of the civic body has distributed more than five lakh chlorine tablets.

Also, 2,782 water samples from slum pockets have been collected for the laboratory test. Even though summer sets in, there is no respite from the vector borne case which are generally found more during post monsoon season.

City has recorded the 68 cases of vector borne diseases till February 24. out of the total recorded cases, 35 cases are of malaria, 21 cases of dengue and six cases each of falciparum and chikungunya have bee reported.
