Ahmedabad: Accidents claim 4 lives in a day

Four fatal accidents have rocked Ahmedabad city over the last 24 hours. The accidents took place at Bopal, Vasna, Danilimda and Riverfront East.

A teenager boy was mowed down by a speeding car while he was going to school on his cycle at around 7.50am on Friday. The boy came under an AMTS bus due to the strong impact of the accident. The incident took place near India Colony AMTS bus stand in Bopal.

Thirteen-year-old Jaishal Sharma was a local and studied in Class VII of Devashish School. The minor died on the spot. The accused car driver, who the cops say was a woman, fled the spot leaving her vehicle behind.

The bus driver, Paresh Patel, 42, has lodged a complaint against the woman, who was driving the car. "We have seized the car from the spot and started a search to track down the owner of the car," a police officer said. The cops immediately swept into action in order to clear road where locals had gathered to protest against rash driving.

The second accident took place on Riverfront Road, between Ellis and Nehru bridges, at around 8.45am on Thursday. A 32-year-old man was knocked dead by a speeding car while he was crossing the road. The victim, identified as Pintu Petkar, succumbed to head injuries. He was a resident of Lal Darwaza.

Petkar was returning from the Bhairavnath temple, located near Riverfront area. A complaint was lodged with the Riverfront east police station by his brother Ganesh Petkar. The car driver, identified as Manish Khadiya, has been arrested.

The third accident took place near Vishala Circle at around 1.30pm on Thursday. A complaint was lodged by 24-year-old Naun Nasim Shaikh, a resident of Vasna. Shaikh told the cops that his friend Faizan Shaikh was on passing the area on a two-wheeler when a speeding truck hit him. Faizan was rushed to the private hospital where he succumbed to head injuries. Vasna police have lodged a case against the truck driver who fled the spot after the incident. The fourth accident took place on Narol- Chandola road in Danilimda area of Ahmedabad at around 8.15pm on Tuesday. The victim, identified as Somabhai Leuva, was a resident of Khokhara. He was on his cycle when the speeding car hit his bike from behind. Leuva was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. A complaint was lodged against the biker by his son Himanshu with Danilimda police station.
