Abe aave chhe: Gujarat rolls out red carpet ahead of visit

As the city gears up to welcome Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Wednesday, an introduction to the culture of India, in the form of different dance tableaus, will be on display on an 8 km long route.

The roadshow which will begin from the Airport will culminate at Sabarmati Ashram. A total of 1,800 students from Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation-run schools and private schools will perform on around 40 stages built for the show.

Apart from the roadshow, school kids will also be seen performing Yoga as well as in bands. Other than the different dance forms of 28 states, musical instruments of different states like the Dhol, Nagada, Shehnai, Manjira, Shankhnaad, Ghantanaad will also be demonstrated.

On both sides of the major roads of the city, India and Japan's flags have also been placed prominently to welcome the guests. To inspect the preparations, Mayor Gautam Shah visited the route on Tuesday along with deputy mayor and ruling party's Lala Thakore.

"For the performances, 12 big stages and 18 small stages have been arranged. After prime minister's pass, the performances will be continued for citizens till late night," said Mayor Gautam Shah.

"To welcome the guests more than 600 welcome messages in English and Japanese languages have been placed across the city. While, one lakh flags of India and Japan have been placed along the road sides," added Shah. Several public service buses have been called off by the civic body. Six routes will not operate, including the airport shuttle.
