A'bad to celebrate a century of centurion blood donors

To celebrate the National Voluntary Blood Donation Day which is observed on October 1 every year, the Ahmedabad Red Cross Centurion Blood Donors' Club will celebrate the city's unique distinction of being home to more than 100 blood donors who have donated blood more than 100 times.

To celebrate the National Voluntary Blood Donation Day which is observed on October 1 every year, the Ahmedabad Red Cross Centurion Blood Donors' Club will celebrate the city's unique distinction of being home to more than 100 blood donors who have donated blood more than 100 times.

Mukesh Patel, the founder and chairman of the Ahmedabad Red Cross Centurion Blood Donors' Club, said that the club will be celebrating the city's unprecedented world record in the field of voluntary blood donations by marking the century of centurions on October 1.

"Ahmedabad has 101 blood donors who have donated blood more than 100 times. We will be celebrating the fact that the city is set to be acknowledged as the first in the world to have more than 100 such donors," Patel told DNA.

More than 80 of the centurion donors are expected to be present at the programme organised on October 1 to mark the occasion. Governor OP Kohli, who is also president of the Indian Red Cross Society in Gujarat, will be the chief guest at the function.

Patel and 30 other centurion donors, who fall under the eligible age group of up to 65, will also donate blood to mark the occasion. Patel will be donating his blood for the 150th time. "A directory that compiles the achievements of the members of the Ahmedabad Red Cross Centurion Blood Donors' Club will also be released on the day," added Patel.

  • The Blood Donors’ Club was founded on January 22, 2002. At the time, the club had 25 centurion blood donors.

 

  • The Ahmedabad Red Cross Blood Programme has been the country’s largest blood collector, leading the nation in voluntary blood donations, stated a release.
