State police have served non-bailable warrants against more than 9,500 persons facing trial in various criminal cases as part of a special drive launched for the arrest of wanted and proclaimed offenders ahead of the polls.

A release by the additional DGP and State Level Nodal Officer for force deployment, Mohan Jha stated local police have traced and served NBWs against 9,565 persons with an aim to curb criminal activities and create a conducive atmosphere for conduct of free and fair elections.

It said preventive action has been initiated against 29,000 people under the Criminal Procedure Code, and various other laws. The release further said Police and District Election Officers have formed 540 flying squads, set up 90 border check-posts, and 500 check-posts at entry-exit points on inter-district borders and strategic locations to restrict movement of liquor, drugs, illegal arms, and to arrest wanted offenders.

According to the release, the Karai Police Academy is imparting role-based training to police officers to deal with general law and order management, election expenditure monitoring, polling station security, quick reaction teams, among others in view of the elections.
