9 held for vandalism at art gallery

Gujarat University police arrested nine men for allegedly ransacking an Indo-Pak painting exhibition at Amdavad Ni Gufa on August 16. The arrested people, who claimed to be members of Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), had attacked the exhibition to oppose participation of Pakistani artists. Sources said that they were nabbed from their residences at around 3 am on Tuesday.Jwalit Mehta (30), a resident of Usmanpura, who allegedly led the group, was among those arrested. He is reportedly the convener of the city unit of Bajrang Dal and a prominent VHP member. 

The eight others were Nikunj Parekh, 24, Arun Pandey, 25, Pradipsinh Rathod, 20, Anupsinh Rajput, 27, Jagdish Dantani, 23, Pradipsinh Parmar, 27, Pradip Valand, 32, and Hardik Solanki, 26,
