622 cases of vector-borne diseases reported in 2 weeks

In a poor health record that has been plaguing the state very recently, the administration on Monday revealed 622 cases of vector-borne diseases have come up over last two weeks.

According to experts, the number of the cases is very high considering the high temperature in the state, which has crossed even 40 degree Celsius. Generally, the vectors are stronger during the monsoon or immediately after the season. 

The health department of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), which released the city's health report on Monday, said around 425 cases of malaria were reported in first two weeks of October. Last year, this number had risen to 884 during the same period. Cases of falciparum are 128 and that of dengue is 64 this year. Also, another five cases of Chikungunya were reported with AMC last week.

Also, 431 cases of waterborne diseases have been reported. Out of 209 gastroenteritis cases, there were around 111 patients suffering from typhoid and the rest from jaundice.
