The decomposed body of a middle-aged woman was found near the entrance of late chief minister Chimanbhai Patel’s bungalow near Manekbaug area on Wednesday afternoon. It is learned that the body was thrown from a car about 50 feet away from the gate of the bungalow, ‘Chinmay’.
While walking towards her home in Paras apartment, Godavari Patel saw a body lying near the boundary wall of Kameshwar Twins society, adjoining the open ground near the bungalow, just 50 feet away from it. As the foul smell from the decomposed body started spreading, many others, including the security guards of Chinmay, gathered near the body, which was wrapped in a cloth. It was so badly decomposed that the woman’s face had turned completely black.
After receiving a call from Patel, the Satellite police arrived and started their investigation. Her appearance and clothes suggested that the woman was around 40 years old and belonged to a well-to-do family.
Police also learnt from the security guard that the body was not there at 4 pm when he had gone to fetch tea from a stall on the main road. He saw the body while returning half-an-hour later.
Experts from the forensic science laboratory also arrived shortly after that. Preliminary investigation revealed that the woman might have been strangled to death about 36 hours ago. “She might have been killed at some other place a day or two ago and then her body thrown at this spot,” said AS Pandya, inspector of Satellite police station.
While searching for clues, FSL experts also found tyre marks of some vehicle near the body, suggesting that some one might have come in the car and quickly fled after disposing of the body there.
