3 killed after car rams into dumper, catches fire

At least three youngsters died and two others sustained burns after their car rammed into a dumper around 2 am on Wednesday night. The accident took place near Bhadaj Circle on Ring road. The trio was charred after their car caught fire.

A case was lodged with the 'A' Division traffic police station by one of the victim's fathers, identified as Anil Pipavat. The five youth have been identified as Rahul Barad (21), Romil Patwa (23), Dhairiya Patel (23), Parth Pipavat and Maharshi Tripati (21). They had gone for a long drive on SP Ring Road in Rahul's Polo Volkswagen car.

Maharshi was at the wheel when their car rammed into the dumper, following which a fire broke out. The victims were trapped in the car. Passersby rushed to the spot and extricated Parth and Maharshi from the front of the car. The car was almost gutted when the rescuers managed to reach the back seat.

The injured are in a hospital, police said. The police and the fire department staff brought the situation under control.

The deceased have been identified as Rahul Barad, a resident of Prahaladnagar area, Romil Patwa, a resident of Navrangpura and Dhairiya Patel, a resident of Thaltej.

KD Nakum, the inspector of A division traffic police station, said, "Primary investigation revealed that the car was speeding and rammed into the dumper which was moving ahead. The impact of the collision was so bad that the front was crushed. We have seized the dumper and are interrogating its driver. An FSL team is also investigating the case." According to a source, Rahul Barad was the nephew of Congress MLA of Veraval Bhagwanbhai Barad.
