BJP president Amit Shah said on Sunday that the ongoing Lok Sabha elections were not to make Narendra Modi the prime minister, but to make the country a superpower.

Shah, who is contesting the elections from Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency, made the comment while addressing a gathering in Randheja in Gandhinagar after a massive road-show in Kalol town of the district.

"These elections are not to decide if Narendra Modi becomes the prime minister, but to make India a superpower. It was because of Modi that India avenged the martyrdom of its soldiers in 13 days. Only BJP can respond to every bullet fired from Pakistan towards India with bombs," the BJP chief said.

Shah, who is believed to be eyeing a victory with a margin bigger than party patriarch LK Advani managed from Gandhinagar, reminded the audience that he belonged to Mansa town of Gandhinagar, and promised that Gandhinagar would witness the most development among all 543 Lok Sabha seats in the next five years. "I have travelled to 242 constituencies in the country, and have to visit 91 more. I am here to seek votes for myself," he said, appealing citizens to vote for him in large numbers.

Earlier in the evening, Shah participated in a roadshow in Kalol assembly segment. The roadshow was kicked off after Shah paid tributes at the statue of Dalit icon Babasaheb Ambedkar on the occasion of his birth anniversary in Kalol town.

Shah and deputy chief minister Nitin Patel travelled in an open vehicle during the roadshow, and were greeted by thousands of people along the route. Hundreds of BJP workers in cars and on motorcycles also accompanied Shah. The roadshow culminated at Panchwati Hanuman temple, a distance of around 7 km from the Ambedkar statue.

Earlier in the day, Shah joined various campaign-related activities in Ahmedabad. He held a meeting with party workers and asked them to work hard for the victory. He also interacted with chairmen and secretaries of various housing societies in Sabarmati, Ghatlodia, and Naranpura, which form a part of Gandhinagar LS seat, and appealed them to re-elect Modi government for prosperous India.

Shah had earlier held road shows on the day of filing of his nomination papers and on April 6.

SHAH TO CAMPAIGN IN SAURASHTRA TODAY

Amit Shah will address election rallies in Saurashtra on Monday, the state BJP said in a release. He is slated to address a public meeting in Kodinar, which is a part of the Junagadh Lok Sabha seat in the afternoon. This would be followed by a roadshow and public meeting in Deesa in Banaskantha.
