A school playground, a series of traditional games, laughter, pranks and giggles! One would only be visualising kids in such a situation. Interestingly, these were not kids but principals who were playing and chasing each other in forgotten traditional games like Limbu Chamchi (lemon spoon), Kothara Daud (sack race) and others.

In an attempt to develop interest in forgotten traditional games, a one-of-its-kind sports activity event was organized by the District Primary Education Office dedicated only for government school principals and their officers. A total of 189 principals and 12 education officers were witnessed participating in various games. Without thinking about their age, mobility or outfit, the energy of the participants was something to be cheered for.

For the females, branded shoes or atheletic outfit did not matter. Dressed in salwar kameez and sarees, some even ran barefoot, with all their energy and enthusiasm.

"The idea to conceptualize such an event was to develop interest in such games among principals. Until and unless they themselves are interested, they will not encourage students to get into sports. Such games also reduces stress and ego among each other," Mahesh Mehta, District Primary Education Officer (DPEO) said.

"It also ensures a great bonding between everyone. This is the first time this kind of an event is happening. We will be hosting such an event in Sanand next," Mehta said.

The event was held at the playground of Physical Education college in Hathijan. Mahesh Joshi, Director, Primary Education inaugurated the event. Among those present included president of Teachers Association, Shreeji Swami and Ram Swami of Hathijan Swaminarayan Gurukul.

Sharing her experience, Arti Sharma, Principal, Miroli pay centre said, "This was one of the best experience for all of us and I feel it should happen often. Many times, due to high responsibilities and day to day life, we somehow hide the child within us. This event gave us an opportunity to be a child again. Also, it helped us all bond well and reduce ego."
