The city will celebrate its ‘Heritage City’ tag with a 15-day heritage festival starting August 1.

Chief minister Vijay Rupani had called a meeting of ministers, government officials and office-bearers of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation(AMC)  in Gandhinagar on Monday where he asked them to draw up a detailed plan.

Rupani said, “It is a matter of great pride that UNESCO has declared Ahmedabad ‘Heritage City’ and this occasion should be celebrated with fanfare and enthusiasm. AMC will chart out a plan for the 15-day-long celebration and they will involve locals too. The state government will provide all possible help.”

Rupani emphasised the celebration should promote the message of communal harmony. “A special ‘yatra’ should be held in all six zones and an effort should be made to ensure participation of people from all religions,” he added.

The CM has also proposed special seminars and other programmes which focus on the cultural and historical heritage of the city. Rupani is keen that the youth are encouraged to join the programmes.
