110 firms offer summer internships at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad

Future managers also took up offbeat internships at SEBI & Anandwan.

Ahead of the scheduled completion, the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) has announced closure of the Summer Internship Placement Process- 2013 for the batch of 380 students of Post Graduate Programme for Management (PGP)- and PGP Agri Business Management (ABM) 2013-15 batch, on Monday.

For PGP the summer internship process was completed even before the institute could hold the fourth and last round of internship interview on November 19. In the process conducted in three clusters, 110 companies participated offering summer internships to future managers.

A communication from the institute suggests, in terms of number of offers, the Boston Consulting Group was the top recruiter across clusters picking up 14 students from the campus. They were also the highest recruiter in the consulting sector.

“Among global investment banks, Goldman Sachs was the highest recruiter having made 7 offers to students for roles in financial markets, investment banking and quantitative strategy. Aditya Birla Group and GE were the top recruiters amongst conglomerates extending 10 offers each to students for their management leadership programmes,” it stated.

Tanishq Goyal, Recruitment Secretary of IIM-A said, “We feel extremely happy at the way our Summer Placements were carried out. Our students obtained internships in diverse sectors such as BFSI, conglomerates, consulting, e-commerce, FMCG, global investment banks, NGOs, pharmaceuticals, start-ups and technology. We received positive feedback from our recruiters about the process and will continue to maintain the high standards we set for ourselves in the coming placement seasons as well.”

Many new firms make foray
Around 30 firms participated in the PGP- ABM placement process, including regular recruiters such as DSCL, DuPont, Godrej Agrovet, Marico, Miebach Consulting, Mondelez International, Rabobank, Syngenta, TAFE and Tata Rallis.

This placement season also marked the entry of several new firms in the summer placement process, including Amul. Two students got international roles in Europe. A student also opted to pursue his interest in the social and development sector by taking up an internship project while a couple of students sought to pursue internships in startups like Blue Sky Agro and GreenNGood.

Interns explore diverse career options
Students also chose to pursue internships in offbeat sectors to explore careers in social and regulatory roles. The recruiters offering such roles included SEBI and Anandwan. A few students chose to intern with start-up firms that participated in the ‘Entre Fair’ organized on the campus on October 12, 2013.
