Had I not been in this profession, I would probably have never known these latest relationship terms. One such term which I find quite intriguing is situationship. What does it mean? Well, to a lay person it would mean being in a certain situation - which all of us are all the time. What is situationship in relationships? Not all relationships are straight forward. They are neither free from commitment phobia nor decisive in nature.  So, it is generally for people who haven’t made up their minds to commit. When two people start seeing each other, they get into a situationship when they do not know if they are more than friends – boyfriend or girlfriend yet. There is no label on the relationship and both individuals experience a see-saw kind of teetering and tottering in their undefined relationship. It can last for months or years.

The first sign to be vary about such a situation is to find out if there is a name to your relationship or it’s a mere friendship. The way one is introduced to one’s social circle reveals a lot. While introducing this person to one’s friends and family is a big step, one is definitely in a situationship when a person refrains from keeping his/her friends and family at bay, it signifies situationship. When one avoids talking about a future together, it says a whole lot about the situation and how dicey the relationship is. When one is left wondering what the future holds and plans are made for not more than two days, to a week in advance, it’s time to rethink.

A relationship can be black or white, whereas a situationship is grey. There isn’t enough clarity about where one stands. Situationship involves feelings and emotions but not an entire range of it. The course and nature of relationships remain ambiguous usually erking one partner more than the other one.

The concept of situationship is pretty new and is attributed to the modern dating system and the social media. Its very easy to hook up and break up. With no strings attached and varied options, situationship is here to stay.
