Poor response to the scheme to regularise unauthorised constructions has forced govt to revise date for the third time.

As indicated by DNA on February 5, the state government, on Tuesday, extended the deadline to regularise unauthorised constructions for the third time.

The fee structure announced for the regularisation of unauthorised construction (impact fee) has also been reduced for the third time. Now, the government has proposed the payment of a small lump-sum for regularisation.

Urban development minister Anandiben Patel announced the new structure as well as the new deadline of August 18, 2013. “Considering the representations to make provisions of Gujarat Regularisation of Unauthorised Development Act 2011 more beneficial and easy for the middle and poor economic class of the state, a policy decision has been taken by the chief minister Narendra Modi to give more benefits to the people to reduce the fee and extend the deadline,” an official note stated.

The government had first fixed the rates on February 18 last year. It subsequently revised the rates on June 4 and August 17.

The Act was enacted to regularise around 20 lakh unauthorised constructions across the state, of which five lakh are estimated to be in Ahmedabad city alone. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) had received only 51,801 applications until February 11. AMC’s revenue from impact fee has been Rs4.98 crore. In all, 531 certificates regularising buildings have been issued.
