Three persons accused of raping a minor girl in Danilimda and filming the act were convicted by the court of additional sessions judge KI Kachhia on Tuesday. The court gave the verdict after the public prosecutor argued that the accused should be awarded exemplary punishment as such cases are increasing in society.

The two accused, Yunus Hussain Luhar and Iqbal Shahbuddin Luhar, were awarded 12 years’ rigorous imprisonment while the third accused, Mohammad Irfan Sheikh, was sentenced to 10-year jail. The court also ordered three-year imprisonment for Yunus under the Information Technology Act as he had filmed the act. All the accused are aged between 21 and 25 years.

“We have placed 45 documentary evidences before the court and taken deposition of 30 witnesses apart from medical examination and other scientific reports related to the case,” said Darshan Shah, assistant public prosecutor.

According to case details, the 15-year-old victim is a distant relative of accused Yunus and Iqbal. On the evening of April 3, 2011, the trio had met at a wedding in Juhapura. The two youths took the girl to a deserted luxury bus parked nearby where Iqbal raped her and Yunus filmed the act.

The next evening, Yunus and his friend Mohammad Irfan asked the girl to come out of her house and then took her to a nearby house in Danilimda. There they blackmailed her with the video clip and raped her. When the girl did not return home, her parents and relatives initiated a search for her. They reached the house where the girl had been taken and caught the duo in the act. Later, a complaint was lodged by the victim’s sister.
