A diamond unit owner was abducted, looted and murdered by his former employee in Surat on Saturday night. His body was recovered from bush between Uttran and Mota Varachha on Monday morning. Police arrested the culprit within hours.

Arvind Godhani, 42, a resident of Satyanagar society in Kapodara, and owner of a diamond unit, had gone to meet Mansukh Charka, resident of Suryanagar in Varachha, on Saturday night. When Godhani did not return home till late in the night, his family members lodged a complaint with police.

Police detained Charka based on suspicion. He confessed to the murder during police interrogation.

“Charka lured Godhani with prospective customers for diamonds and took him to Simada. While returning, he attacked Godhani with a small concrete pillar and killed him,” M V Kikani, inspector of Kapodara police station, said.

Kikani added that Charka took Rs50,000 cash and 12-carat rough diamonds that Arvind was carrying at that time. The cash and the rough diamonds have been seized by police.
Sources said that Charka was an ex-employee of Godhani. He was fired 10 days back following some dispute during work. Since then, Charka had been planning revenge. Kapodara police have registered a case and are investigating further.
