She cannot speak Marathi even though she is Maharashtrian, but her English is impeccable. Priyanka is hearing impaired since birth and can learn only one language due to her disability. A student of RN Podar School, Santa Cruz, Priyanka was overwhelmed at knowing that she had scored 92% in her class X exams. "Her hearing aid helps her register only 50% of the sound. It's mostly through lip reading that she understood her teachers," said Nagesh Patil, her father.
