After a long struggle, third year engineering students studying the old syllabus will now be allowed to keep terms (ATKT) and take admission in the fourth year.

The Mumbai University dispatched the circular to colleges on December 7.

According to the circular, sixth semester students who have KTs will now be allowed to take admission in the next semester.

However, they will not be able to attempt the exams until they clear all their KTs from the second year. “It comes as a relief to all of us,” said Sparsh Sharma, a third year engineering student from Navi Mumbai. “We would have had to deal with the new syllabus in the seventh semester if the circular had noat been issued.”

They will also need to reduce their KTs to a minimum of five before they can attempt the seventh semester exam in May, the circular states.

Bhavik Shah, a student of Terna Engineering College said, “Our exams started on December 9 and I will be clearing all my second year KTs. This way, I will be eligible to stay in the old syllabus as next year the new syllabus will start from the sixth semester itself.”

Usually students who have more than five ATKTs are not promoted unless they clear the subjects.
