Mumbai University’s academic council has recommended that the increase in fees for postgraduate courses be implemented from academic year 2010-11.
After protests over the mid-term fee increase for post-graduate programmes, the university issued a circular to its departments and affiliated colleges on November 3, 2009, saying that the “revised fee structure for postgraduate courses communicated via a circular [dated October 6, 2009], which has been brought into force with effect from the 2009-10 academic year, has been kept in abeyance till further orders”.
Subsequently, the academic council recommended to the management council that the fee increase be implemented from the next academic year. “A final decision will be taken by the management council,” said a member.
Meanwhile, the academic council also confirmed the minutes of an earlier meeting which had resolved that final-year commerce students, who have financial accountancy and auditing; management; and commerce as their specialisation subjects, will no longer have to get 35% in each paper to pass.
“It had been resolved at the last meeting that commerce students will be declared passed if the aggregate is 105, even if they have scored 20% in any of these specialisations,” another member said. “This will be implemented from 2010.”
