While Mumbai University has announced the dates of exams that will be held in the first half of 2010, MSc students continue to wait for their results that have been delayed by over three months.
As per the Maharashtra Universities Act, 1994, results have to be published within 45 days from the last day of the exam. The MSc exam got over on October 28, 2009.
While university exams will start from March, MSc students are still in the dark as to whether they have cleared the previous exam or not.
The reason for the delay, said university controller of examinations, Vilas Shinde, is owing to an ambiguity in a PG resolution passed by the university. “Earlier, if students cleared the practical, but failed in theory, they had to clear both again. But the new resolution says a student can carry forward the practical marks, even if he/she has failed in the theory. But the circular does not say whether students will get a class or not, so there’s an anomaly,” Shinde said.
The matter has been sent to the concerned authority for clarity. “There are around 600 MSc students. The issue will be resolved in a day or two and results will be declared subsequently,” Shinde said.
Jayant Jain, president of All India Federation of PTA and Forum for Fairness in Education, said several students had approached them complaining about the huge delay. He said if the results were not declared immediately, the forum would have to take appropriate legal action against concerned officials.
