Gandhinagar: Getting a job in any educational institutes in Gujarat will be a tough task in days to come, as the state education department is in the process of establishing uniform rules for recruitment of teaching staff in the schools and colleges across the state. These new norms are likely to have stringent eligibility criteria for selection.
According to highly placed sources in the state government, the education department intends to establish a new set of norms for recruitment of the staff. Currently, there are no standard rules in practice.
Further, there are many ambiguities in recruitment process at university and school level, which leave scope for irregularities and corruption. To do away with this while ensuring selection of quality manpower, the government plans to form uniform rules for recruitment.
The department has recently hired a special officer for the purpose. The department has recently put in place new recruitment rules (RR) for Gujarat Technological University (GTU). Following this, selection of teaching staff for all the engineering and pharmacy colleges will become difficult, because, as per new criteria, the candidates must have a M. Tech degree with first class for the selection.
The sources also indicated that the new norms could lead to controversy and practical problems. This will reduce chances for local candidate. Further, pay scales in the educational institutes are not so attractive, so MTech degree holder with good marks may prefer other sectors.
It is worthwhile to mention that the state government has already initiated procedure for establishment of the Teacher's Recruitment Board, which will regulate and oversee the recruitment process for teachers in secondary and higher secondary schools.
