The new batch of IAS apprentices is a mixed bag of people from different parts of India. They would soon be proceeding to districts already allotted to them, as part of the training module.

Archana Singh originally from Allahabad in UP has been allotted Sabarkantha district, while Ranjit Singh from Hajipur in Bihar will work initially in Junagadh. Udit Agrawal from Delhi will be heading to Bharuch and Saidingpuii Chhakchhuak all the way from Aizawl in Mizoram has being allotted Valsad district to work in during her training period. Finally, the batch’s Gujarati boy, Dr Dhaval Patel, who had already undergone a training course at the SPIPA prior to attempting the UPSC exams, will be going to the Panchmahals.

The last batch of six trainees had recently left the institute to complete their remaining three months course at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration at Mussoorie. These officials will then return to Gujarat to be posted as district development officers (DDOs) or assistant collectors.

BB Swain, who heads SPIPA and is also the secretary to Gujarat government, said that during the year-long stint, these trainees will spend half the time on on-job training. In the first six months, they will be taking various courses including disaster management, language skills, public administration etc.

The training period will mainly be spent at the SPIPA. Later they will work at the SPIPA, in different departments in Sachivalaya and also at some PSUs. These trainees will also spend about a month’s time working at taluka-level as mamlatdars and on similar posts.
