Banglore: The much anticipated summer placement process got off to a start at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIM-B) on Friday.
The B-school authorities were tight-lipped about the progress, names and number of companies and offers made on Slot Zero. The slot is usually popular with the finance sector, investment banking and consulting firms.
"This year we have a large batch for summer placements. The mood on campus has been upbeat as several companies had confirmed their participation," said Sapna Agarwal, head of career development services.
The current batch of 350 students is the largest at IIM-B has had in its history. Nearly 92% of them are engineering graduates, with a small number of students from science and other backgrounds.
Confirming that the students have nothing to worry about, Sapna added, "The summer internship offers are not usually affected by the economy. Such factors would have more of an impact on final placements. We are giving the process close to a week to conclude because we have a large batch to handle."
Last year, 110 companies participated in the summer placements at IIM-B and 121 students were made internship offers on the first day of placements. Nearly 45% of the 268 students of first-year Post Graduate Programme chose offers in the financial sector, with 85 receiving foreign internship offers.
