Ahmedabad: Some of the recommendations regarding examination reforms in Gujarat may not be implemented by 2011. There are chances that the SSC examinations in two parts -- one of the three sets of recommendations of the Sudhir Mankad Committee -- may not get the nod from the state government.
While it is believed that all three sets of recommendations will be approved by the state government after the executive committee of the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GSHSEB) sends them for consideration, a source in the GSHSEB said that 2001 will be a difficult time to implement the recommendation of conducting the SSC examinations in two parts.
"This is only an exercise to ensure that proper procedure is followed before taking a significant decision. But it seems that everything is already decided, and there are chances that two out of the three recommendations will be accepted by the state government. The SSC examinations in two parts may not be accepted as it does not appear to be feasible to implement it from 2011. This requires a complete overhaul of the present education system in Gujarat, and time is too short for this," a GSHSEB officer said.
He said that the other two recommendations will definitely be accepted by the state government, and the GSHSEB will implement these from 2011. "However, the practice of declaring ranks at the state and district levels by the board may be discontinued from the next academic term itself," the officer said.
