New Delhi: Students facing ragging in their institutions will now be able to lodge complaints through a dedicated portal which will be put in place soon. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has invited expression of interest from agencies for development of the anti-ragging portal.
"The portal will be an independent one, on which the victims of ragging can register their complaints. They will be transferred to the institutions and local administration for necessary action," UGC secretary RK Chouhan said. The government has already started a toll-free number to help victims lodge their complaint and get relief from the authorities.
The supreme court had earlier asked the government to set up a central crisis hotline and anti-ragging database which will contain the details of each student.
The UGC had earlier issued anti-ragging regulations according to which students and their parents would have to submit an undertaking to the institute saying that they were aware of the anti-ragging rules and would abide by them. The database will function as a record for registered complaints and the follow up action taken in those cases.
