All universities in the state will follow a common calendar for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

The department of higher education had issued a circular to all state universities on Novenmber 13, instructing them to follow same dates for events like conducting admissions andexamination, announcing results and beginning of classes from the current academic year itself.

At present the universities are following their own calendars for conducting events. And because of that dates for academic activities differ in each university. For example, the Bangalore University starts the admission procedure in August, while Mysore University it starts in September.

The department had been pondering issuing a single calendar for all universities since 2006. The matter was discussed in the Inter University Board (IUB) meetings held on September 22, 2006 and on February 23, 2007 .

In an IUB meeting held at Belgaum on June 30 all the board members including Vice-Chancellors of all state universities had unanimously agreed to follow
a single calendar for academic activities.

AS Srikanth, principal secretary, department of higher education told DNA, “We have prepared a calendar after consulting all Vice-Chancellors. They have all agreed to follow the calendar from this academic year onwards. Moreover, it was a pending demand of the Vice-Chancellors of the state universities itself.”

This year, as all the universities have completed their admission procedure and started classes they will follow the common calendar for further activities like conducting examinations and announcing results, said Srikanth.

From the next academic year onwards all universities in the state will start the admission procedure for undergraduate courses before July 15 and conclude the procedure before the end of the month.

The classes will commence by the first week of August.

The admission procedure for postgraduate courses will begin by the first week of august and classes will start by the second week of the same month.
