The very eventful 54th annual convention of National Association of Students of Architecture (Nasa) held at GMDC ground in the city came to an end amid more ruckus and complaints.

The event, which was mired in controversies over bad food and unhygienic accommodation, also saw a ruckus erupt after some 400 students allegedly decided to boycott the event over short-listing of students for some of the events. "Some of the jury members belonged to the competing colleges, which is against the rule," a protesting student alleged.

The organisers then had to call the Vastrapur police, who then managed to get the situation under control and disperse the protesting crowd.

"It was an internal problem. The students were also annoyed at the accommodation and food despite paying big amount for it. But we managed to get the situation under control and disperse the crowd," said a cop on duty at the venue.

"The highlight of Nasa is the designs by various schools that are put on display. This time around they did not even do it. What is the point in coming this far and not getting to see what other schools are designing," said another student from a southern college.

Anil Laul, an architect, and a jury member, said first and foremost the association should be lauded for putting together such a big show.

"It takes courage to put together such a big show. Although I will not deny that there were issues particularly in display of designs of other colleges. I will also like to add here that the staff members of the respective colleges have also not bothered to guide their students in the correct manner," said Laul.

A faculty from Hyderabad, whose student fell ill due to food poisoning, alleged gross mismanagement every where. In all sources said some 10 students had taken ill during the event due to food poisoning and were rushed to Sterling Hospital. When DNA tried to contact the conveners of Nasa for their comment in the matter, they did not take our call.
