Ahmedabad: Amid heightened expectation levels, campus placements in the National Institute of Design (NID), Industry Interface-09 at Paldi began on Wednesday. And if going by the first day's grand response, the industry's interest in roping in the institute's grads seems to be very high and the final placements of the institute is turning out to be much better than the previous year.
Around 300 students took part in the placements on the first day where representatives of 25 companies counseled students and the highest package offered students touched Rs9.86 lakh.A total of around 65 companies have enlisted to participate in the placements this year.
Last year around 31 companies had come a-calling to the premier design institute and had paid around Rs7 lakh as the highest package.
Talking about the placements this year, Industry Relations & Students' Placement Officer at NID, Sujitha Nair said, "The placements have been going very good so far. Apart from the prominent companies that have visited the campus every year, we have lots of new companies as well."
This year, other than companies like Infosys, Honda RND, Tata interactive system, Godrej and Boyce, Glaxo, Bajaj Auto, TI cycles, Madura Garments and others who are taking part in the institute's placement, the institute is also seeing new participation by various other recruiters like TAFE, Godrej Industries, Pathway school and so on. "Many companies are also participating in the recruitment process through online as well," Nair said.
This year's placement is also being participated by some institute's alumni. "They are on the look out for a jump and has therefore taken part in the placements," Nair said.
A student of NID said on the condition of anonymity, "We believe that the placement will be better this year. There are more companies participating this year and we should be getting more offers this year. However the real figure will be visible only in a couple of days."
This year, for the first time, the placement was also conducted in the Bangalore campus from September 17-19. "We have placed around 75% of the students in the Bangalore. The rest of the students will be participating in the Paldi Campus," Nair said.
Talking about the number of students placed in the Paldi campus onWednesday Nair said, "We have many offers till now, however that does not represent the true number of placements as most of the companies are yet to respond with offers. It will take at least 15 more days to confirm the final number of offers received."
