Students of Rachana School emerged city champions in the Limca Book of Records Quiz Competition 2009 held at the Seventh Day Adventist Higher Secondary School. A total of 126 students from 63 schools in Ahmedabad participated in the competition held on Tuesday.
Six teams entered the final of the quiz competition. The Rachana team, comprising Hrim Shah (15) and Dhwanit Kumar (14), will now participate alongside the winners from 74 other cities across India, in the semifinals in Delhi. The teams from St Kabir and Tulip International School stood second and third in Ahmedabad, respectively.
“I have been part of similar competitions such as the Bournvita Quiz Contest, the Macmillan quiz competition and Ishar Motor Competition before. I make sure that I read the newspapers and general-knowledge books like Manorama for at least 15 to 20 minutes every day,” said Hrim, who asserts that this has led to his all-round knowledge.
The multi-city competition is being organised in partnership with the ‘Know and grow with Derek’ initiative and involves participation from students of class VIII to XII. Under this, a series of quiz competitions is being organised for 3,000 schools from 75 cities of India, split into four zones — north, south, east and west — and three stages — the inter-school level, semifinals and national final, between April and December 2009.
“Such competitions give us an opportunity to learn about the achievements of Indians while engaging young minds. The Limca Book of Records Quiz Competition is in continuation of our vision of promoting knowledge and awareness among the young minds of the country,” said Rahul Pathak, channel manager, Gujarat, Coca-Cola beverages. Derek O’Brien, renowned quiz master and founder of the ‘Know and grow with Derek’ initiative, will host the national final.
