Pre-elections ABVP, NSUI workers clash

A day prior to the Gujarat University senate (students' representative body) elections a group of the BJP's students wing, ABVP allegedly assaulted students belonging to the NSUI of the Congress when they were pasting the poster of an NSUI candidate for the senate elections on Saturday night.

According to sources, four people including Dhaval Nagar, Raju panchal, Jitu and one more member of the NSUI were posting posters of a candidate near the Navgujarat college on Ashram road when the incident happened. The four have alleged that they were confronted by one Zubin, a member of the ABVP who asked them to not paste the posters. The four, however, refused after which Zubin had a dispute with them. Things got out of hand when Zubin and his associates came to blows with them.

According to the complaint, Zubin not only assaulted the NSUI members but also damaged the car of one of the members.
When contacted, Police Inspector of Naranpura police station, SD Patel confirmed the incident and said that a complaint had been registered against Zubin.

The senate has 10 seats and the main fight is between ABVP and the NSUI. The election was held for eight seats only on Sunday as the representatives of medical and dental faculties have been chosen unanimously.
