Students of College of Fisheries under Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) have urged the state government to recruit 90% of the graduates, leaving the rest for departmental promotion.
President of students' union Biswabhusan Jena said a memorandum containing their demands had been submitted to the states' agriculture and animal resources development minister Damodar Rout.
Similarly they also demanded for the immediate filling up of the vacant posts of the fishery extension officer and junior fishery officers through the direct recruitment from the students of the graduate of fisheries.
At least 54 fishery extension officer and 10 junior fishery officers posts are laying vacant in the state, sources said. The students also demanded regularisation of the fishery graduates, who had been appointed as the extension officers since 2004.
At least 26 students of the college had appointed in the post of FEO with a consolidated pay of Rs4,400 per month.
