Need grace marks to pass? Just attend your classes

PUE dept decides to give weightage to attendance; up to 10 marks can be added to your final total.

Need grace marks to pass? Just attend your classes

The new educational policy of the state Pre-University Education Department can bring about a marked difference in student attendance.

From this academic session, the department has decided to give weightage to students' attendance in the classroom, that would translate into marks in the report card. The more you attend the classes the more the marks you get, under the state's first-of-its-kind initiative aimed at boosting the rate of attendance.
Students who secure more than 75% of attendance will get additional marks that will be added to their scores in the final examination.

As per the existing rules, securing 75% attendance is a must for students and those who fail to do that are not eligible to appear for the final examinations. “If a student scores below 75 in attendance then s/he will not get the admission ticket for the final examinations. Though the 75% of attendance is mandatory, many students bunk classes and loose the opportunity to appear for the examinations. To lure them back to classrooms we have come up with this idea,” said a senior official of the department.

Regarding this, the department had also issued a circular.

For example, if a student belongs to the Science stream and s/he secures attendance between 76% and 80% then the student will gain 2 extra marks which will be added to their exam score. This apart, the department has also decided to provide weightage of marks based on the number of periods/classes attended by students and it varies from subject to subject.

But what if one scores 100 percent both in attendance and the final examination? Well, that is a question that the PU colleges will answer.
