In an effort to bring about an overall development in the quality of education, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has initiated a study on the use of the World Wide Web in teaching mathematics effectively to students.
A circular has been issued asking teachers of CBSE-affiliated schools their opinion on the matter.

A lecturer in mathematics with the NCERT, PK Chaurasia, who is a leading investigator in the study, said: “We want to integrate technology in our regular teaching methods to improve the quality; methods that will enhance understanding of different concepts and make the approach simpler. The idea is to change students’ mindset towards the subject.”

The Delhi-based teacher said that he is expecting more than 750 mathematics teachers across the country to participate in the study.

“Replacing the tradition and using information and communication technology in the teaching method should be the need of the hour. As part of the study, we have issued a questionnaire to all the teachers,” he said.

The questionnaire seeks a teacher’s opinion on the use of internet in teaching mathematics; what according to them would be the students’ reaction on being instructed through the internet; what is the potential of the internet as a teaching aid, etc.

A sample content area will be chosen and teachers will identify tools for the development of the sample material.
