The Maharashtra Federation of University and College Teachers’ Organisation (MFUCTO) has moved the Bombay high court against the ministry of human resource development (MHRD). MFUCTO has filed a petition challenging MHRD orders to withdraw exemptions granted to teachers who have not cleared the national eligibility test (NET) and the state level eligibility test (SLET).
The organisation will also organise a massive demonstration in Delhi on August 2, to protest against the order issued on March 30 this year. “The MHRD issued a notification stating that the University Grants Commission (UGC) through its order dated February 23, had granted exemptions to non-NET/SLET teachers. How can MHRD suddenly ask them to be withdrawn?” said CR Sadasivan, president, MFUCTO.
According to MFUCTO, around 9,000 teachers from Maharashtra have been affected. Around 3,000 members of the federation are expected to participate in the agitation on Monday.
