The Maharashtra government plans to set up business incubation centres across the state to impart training to youths to help them start their own ventures.
"Our government will take the initiative to start business incubation centres across the state," the state's minister for Higher and Technical Education, Rajesh Tope, said here today.
He was addressing the Simergence 2010 seminar organised by the Sydenham Institute of Management Studies and Indian Merchant Chambers.
"Our students should be job-providers, not job-seekers," he said. The higher education department has taken up a mission to get all colleges and universities in the state accredited, Tope said.
"The students, then, will get a chance to choose better universities or colleges, based on the accreditation," he said. The government is also planning to bring in changes in evaluation of examinations, the minister said.
"A new system of evaluation of exams will be introduced, which will replace the present marks-oriented exams. The Government is planning to bring in a credit-rating and grading system instead of marks, which is a global practice now," he said.
"Orientation of teachers will also be taken care of," he added.
Under the Modular Employable Skills Scheme, which is an initiative by the prime minister, India will create 50 crore skilled manpower by 2022, he said, adding that Maharashtra will have 5 crore of skilled manpower by then.
"To achieve this target, the State Government will start more vocational training programmes," Tope said.
