The Mumbai University announced the results of the final MA examination in communication and journalism over two months ago. But the students are still awaiting their marksheets.
Around 50 students of the department of communication and journalism (MCJ) are a worried lot. “It has been over two months since our results were declared. We cannot understand why the university is taking such a long time to print individual marksheets. We cannot apply for further studies as we do not have any document to prove that we have cleared ours Masters,” a student said.
Others also complained that a series of delay this year had jeopardised things for them. “First, our oral examination was postponed because of the teachers’ strike. The results were announced 45 days late. And now, we are waiting for our marksheets for more than two months,” another student said.
A faculty from the department of communication and journalism said that the examination section had been reminded many times about the delay. “But every time we were asked why was it bothering us,” said the faculty.
Sanjay Ranade, head of MCJ, said that there was a problem generating computerised marksheets. “We follow the credit system. There are only two other departments in the university which offer credit. Unfortunately, the number of credits is not uniform across the three departments. The computer accepts only a particular format. We are trying to resolve the issue at the university level,” Ranade said.
Controller of examinations Vilas Shinde said that the examination section was being computerised. “Since there are so many subjects and heads, we are finding it difficult to manage. So, the (computer) programme is being changed. The issue is expected to be resolved in a day or two. Also, this particular examination (MCJ) was changed from marks to credit system.”
He added that as it would not be possible to give the students computerised marksheets right now, the examination section would start issuing handwritten marksheets in the next couple of days.
Students said that as of now they have been given certified photocopies of the result of the whole department, each running into four pages.
