The Karnataka Knowledge Commission (KKC) is planning to take up a project to study “the quality of education” in the government schools of the state. Sources in the primary and secondary education department said the project will commence in a couple of months.

“The study is not restricted to the quality of teaching or condition of the infrastructure in the schools. We will also cover areas like capability of teachers, the quality of food etc,” saidProf MK Sridhar, member-secretary, KKC.

At present the department is conducting a quality analysis of students in government schools with help from the Karnataka Schools Quality Assessment Organisation (KSQAO).

“In the KSQAO study the focus is on students. But in our project we will concentrate more on the quality and competence of teachers andfacilities provided for children,” he said. “Most of the times we compare a bad government school with a good private school. It is not the right way and it is just unfair,” he added.

The study will take at least six months to complete, said the sources. “The commission will submit its recommendations to the state government after the study,” said the source.
The commission is planning to appoint a committee of experts for conducting the study.

The group will visit all government schools in the state.
