Students of the bachelor and master of education (BEd, MEd) programs at the Gujarat University (GU) have a reason to smile. From Tuesday, a new set of rules has been implemented at the varsity.
Students will now need to secure a minimum of 40% in theory and 50% in practicals to go to the next level as against the existing requirement of combined 50% average marks of theory and practical exams.
Sharing information about the new rule at GU, vice-chancellor Dr Parimal Trivedi said that earlier if students of the BEd and MEd secured 40% in theory and 50% in practical (passing marks), the average score came to 45%. However, they needed 50% average marks to go to the next level.
"Now the eligibility criteria for BEd and MEd students would be 40% in theory and 50% in practicals. We have scrapped the minimum 50% average marks to go to the next level," he said.
Around 25% of students appearing for the two exams face problems every year and the decision would benefit these students.
