‘Smile of India’ in association with Gujarat University (GU) on Sunday announced the launch of Gujarat University Mobile Directory.
The directory, a first of its kind in the country, will provide information about all the colleges and courses of the GU, on mobile phones.
The directory was formally inaugurated by governor Dr Kamla Beniwal at the residence of the GU vice-chancellor. The directory can be easily downloaded on all mobile phones having internet or GPS connection.
Speaking on the occasion, GU vice-chancellor Parimal Trivedi said, “At the time when India is vying to corner maximum share of the trillion dollar education industry world wide and spending nearly $4 billions annually for higher studies and technical training abroad, this mobile directory would prove a very useful tool.”
He said the mobile directory is loaded with several features like search facility to find names of various colleges offering particular course in various cities or courses being offered in a particular city.
It will give list of colleges; names, addresses and phone numbers of all the colleges and departments affiliated to the Gujarat University. Most importantly, it will be updated regularly on important information like admission status.
Dushyant Joshi of Smileindia Knowledge Services Pvt Ltd said, “This helpdesk is a one step platform to offer accurate, up-to-date information on education and career institutes linked to Gujarat University through the most easily accessible medium - mobile phone.”
He said the directory will provide key numbers of public utility services like hospitals, police, fire brigade, theatres, restaurants as additional features.
