Gujarat University admin staff eyes GTU jobs

The Gujarat University (GU) might in coming days, see some of its administration officials leaving the organisation. And the reason is Gujarat Technology University (GTU)'s ongoing hiring process. As many as five senior administrative officials at GU have applied for prime posts at the GTU after the newly formed varsity announced their intention of hiring staff.

Recently the GTU had announced its recruitment of registrar, assistant registrar, development officer and other 30 key positions for the varsity's administrative office. According to sources, five officials including the examination controller, development officer, publication officer, assistant registrar have applied for the job at the GTU.

When asked about the cause of their action, one of the five officers on condition of anonymity said, 'neighbouring university' will prove to be less stressful as it does not have a political body like executive council and University Court like GU. And which is why they will no more have to work under political pressure to complete the tasks assigned to them.

"GTU has a prime body comprising board of governors (BOG) that oversees and decides the varsity's work. Unlike GU, politicians at GTU will not pressurise us and let us function the way we want to. That will at least give us work freedom," he said. The GTU's BOG comprises of IAS officials and intellectuals and not politicians. A senior official at the GTU said the work to scan number of applications received for the recruitment is being carried out by a committee of four experts.

"The experts will shortlist candidates and present before the varsity for the final selection," said the official adding that there is no deadline set for completion of the work.
