Mumbai Education Trust (MET), and London's Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), have collaborated to offer an eMBA in Insurance for Indian students. The two-year programme will entitle the students for a joint certification in e-empowered Management and Business Administration with exclusive specialisation in the Insurance sector. A part of the course will train students in London giving them exposure to the international market.
The programme, designed to create double edged professionals possessing managerial knowledge with sound technical insurance insights, was formally launched on November
10, 2009.
CA. Sunil G Karve, founder trustee and vice chairman, MET, said, "There is a huge demand for skilled managerial professionals in the rapidly growing insurance industry. Our programme is a result of inputs from the best minds in the industry. Through this programme, we hope to take professional education in the insurance category to the next level by giving students the double advantage of business acumen and strategic skills from our eMBA programme and world class technical inputs from CII, London."
Steve Jenkins, director, financial services markets, CII, said that the course aimed to create insurance professionals who could secure and justify the confidence of the public. People need guidance to point them in the right direction and protect their future, he emphasised.
This is the first time that CII, London, has entered into a collaboration of this kind outside the UK. Students completing the eMBA-Insurance program will be awarded the 'Advanced Diploma in Insurance' by CII, London and conferred the globally recognised designation 'ACII' along with 'Chartered' status. Besides, the students will also be automatically enrolled as members of CII, giving them access to a range of global services.
Dr Alexander Scott, CEO, CII said, "The Indian insurance market is hugely important and will become larger and more sophisticated as the Indian economy grows. But if it is to capitalise on the opportunities that lie ahead, it will need a pool of talent with the requisite skills and abilities."
