FYJC admissions: Centralised process in trouble, so are students

Cut-off list will be delayed due to technical error, says panel; source says data has crashed

FYJC admissions: Centralised process in trouble, so are students

It seems that nothing is going right for the Centralised Admission Process (CAP) this year. The committee has announced that the publication of the result book detailing the cut-off marks of standard X for colleges will be delayed due to minor technical problem. However, a source said that the ‘minor’ problem that has caused delay is that the entire data for science and commerce (English stream) has crashed.

Meanwhile, the delay in admission process is causing anxiety among parents and students.

Although the official statement issued by CAP committee says that there was a minor technical problem, sources confirmed that the data has crashed. DNA had reported that the responsibility to carry out the CAP work was given to a different agency this year.
Meanwhile, the delay in releasing the list and result book (cut-off marks) to colleges will disrupt the CAP schedule and the colleges might only reopen in the first week of August instead of July 31. The scheduled date for colleges to receive the list was July 18 and the actual admission process was to begin from July 19.

An official statement confirmed that the result book will be released in a few days.

Rubbishing the allegations, CAP president Ramchandra Jadhav said, “The overwhelming response to science stream this year led us to re-print some 10,000 forms. As processing these forms takes time, the results’ release will be delayed by one day.”

Gautam Kashyap, who wants to secure admission in commerce stream said, “The delay means that I will have to wait for more days to experience the first day of college. I’m really bored to remain at home and want to make new friends.”

Another student Chaitanya Kher said, “The postponement of admission process will lead to delay in the entire academic year and I fear whether the syllabus will get over or not.”

Jadhav said, “Last year the colleges began on August 8. I’m sure that this year the colleges will begin from August 1.”

CAP drew flak on the first day of the bifocal admission exercise for standard XI. The contract was given to Sharada Agency this year. Because of inefficient staff and poor handling of the process, there was complete chaos during the first round of bifocal admission that took place at Fergusson College on July 4. The admission round had ended at 11pm.
