Sachin Tendulkar shares his views on the responsibilities that parents should take to ensure a brighter future for their child.
In your opinion, what is the key responsibility of a parent?
I play cricket for India but I am a parent first. The most important thing is securing your child's future and laying a solid foundation. It's all about educating your child and making sure that you have secured his or her future.
Why is it so important to emphasise on education?
I think education is the best form of insurance. It is something that gives you lifelong returns. If the foundation is solid, then basically your child is in a position to excel in whatever field he or she wants to. Children who are just five to six years old today will be the future of India 15 to 20 years down the line. If you keep the foundation solid, the future is obviously going to be brighter.
What do parents need to understand about their children's needs?
It's about taking up more responsibility and making sure of your child's future and providing him or her best facilities. Work pressures are so high that you sometimes take things for granted. You think your child is fine and happy but they do need your time. It's all about bringing the family closer.
