Education fee panel holds meet in Mumbai

If the college premises are given on rent for commercial purposes, then the revenue generated from it should be considered as revenue and hence, the colleges can reduce fee burden on the students.

One per cent extra fee hike should be allowed for colleges that have performed well in various techfest or research areas.
These were few of the suggestions which were discussed during the two-day open hearing of Shikshan Shulka Samiti (education fee committee) that was held in Mumbai on Monday and Tuesday.
However, the open hearing got a very poor response from parents and students, said member of Forum against Commercialisation of Education, Milind Waugh.

Waugh, however, alleged that there was less awareness about the hearing and that may have led to the poor response.
For the first time, Shikshan Shulka Samiti (education fee committee) held the hearing to fix norms for fixing fees. The suggestions will be taken into consideration while fixing fees for the next academic year. Justice (retd) PS Patankar, secretary PE Gaikwad and officials of various colleges were present.

Waugh said there was tremendous opposition when a suggestion was mooted that colleges who have received A grades should be allowed to hike fees by 50%. “In fact, we suggested that the fee structure of colleges should be put on the website of Directorate of Higher and Technical Education so that the parents and students will know about fees in various colleges,’’
he added.
