Depression? Gujarat University meet will solve your problems

Psychology department of the Gujarat University (GU) is organising a seminar on 'adolescence' on December 26 and 27. The area theseminar will cover includes romantic relationship, sexuality, depression and suicidal tendency, fantasy, parental conflict, careers opportunities, adolescent adjustment problems among others.

According to Ashwin Jansari, head of the department, Psychology, the outcome of the event will help understand the problems among teenagers across the country.
He said that in past several years number of suicide cases and depression among youth have increased like anything.

Even in Gujarat students commit suicide every year during board examination.
In the two-day seminar over 100 faculties are expected to take part while over 80 research papers are likely to be presented.

In the event, the keynote speaker will be Hema Gadhiyali, a practising psychiatrist in the UK while the guest speaker will be RP Bakshi, a reader from Jammu University, Jammu.
According to Jansari, most of the researches are theme based and have highlighted the issues parents and teenagers are facing but don't have any solution.

“We are going to discuss the problems and then its solution or say intervention and prevention. Our students have worked hard for this seminar and we hope it will help reduce the problems," Jansari said.
